History
The Glenview House during the late
1890's was owned and operated by the late Al Eustice as a saloon or
tavern. Rooms were available upstairs for lodging and meals were
furnished on the main floor. It was in this saloon hall that the
village incorporators met and acted to incorporate the village in 1899.
To the east of the building was the customary horse shed. Eustice sold
out to John Dilg, in 1899, who sometime later added a third story to
the building as a dance hall. It later burned in 1922. Also at one time
there was an outside dance floor to the south of the main building,
where the back deck now stands.
What Glenview looked like then was much
different. Farms abounded. "Town" — down by the railroad depot — was
someplace you went for basic supplies, to church on Sunday and perhaps,
once in a while, to Dilg's, or Eustice's, as it was known before
Glenview was Glenview.
